TRAVELLING TO EUROPE

This information is for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK. It is based on the UK government’s understanding of the current rules for the most common types of travel.   If you are travelling under any other nationality or passport please contact the embassy of the country you are visiting.

The authorities in Europe set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the local Embassy for the country you are visiting.

Passport validity requirements

Europe follows Schengen area rules. Your passport must:

·      have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago

·      have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area (the expiry date does not need to be within 10 years of the date of issue)

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

For further information visit: Travel documents for non-EU nationals - Your Europe

Visa requirements

You can travel without a visa to the Schengen area, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies if you travel:

·      as a tourist

·      to visit family or friends

·      to attend business meetings, cultural or sports events

·      for short-term studies or training

If you’re travelling to other Schengen countries as well, make sure your whole visit is within the 90-day visa-free limit. Visits to Schengen countries within the previous 180 days before you travel count towards your 90 days. If you overstay the 90-day visa-free limit, you may be banned from entering Schengen countries for up to 3 years.

Further information is available at:  Travelling to the EU and Schengen area - GOV.UK

Until the Entry-Exit System (EES) is fully rolled out, make sure you get your passport stamped on entry and exit (read ‘New Schengen entry requirements’).

New Schengen entry requirements

From 12 October 2025, the European Union’s (EU) new Entry/Exit System (EES) began its roll out.

This means that when you travel into the Schengen area for short stays, you may need to register your biometric details, such as fingerprints and a photo. You do not need to take any action before you arrive at the border, and there is no cost for EES registration.

On your first visit into a Schengen country from 12 October onwards, you may be asked to register your details at a special booth before proceeding to the immigration desk. Follow directions from your travel operator or the staff at your port of entry. You may also need to provide either your fingerprint or photo when you leave the Schengen area. Children aged 11 or younger will not have their fingerprints scanned but can be required to have their photo taken.

EES may take each passenger a few extra minutes to complete so be prepared to wait longer than usual at the border.

EES will not be rolled out to all ports of entry at once, the numbers of passengers being registered at each port of entry will vary, and some destinations may take up to 6 months to fully roll out the new process.

Until EES is fully rolled out your passport will continue to be stamped, even if you’ve already been registered for EES.

Once EES is fully rolled out, it will replace the current system of manually stamping passports when visitors arrive in the Schengen area for short stays and you will input biometric details every time you enter or exit.

If you enter the Schengen area through the Port of Dover, Eurotunnel at Folkestone or Eurostar at St Pancras International and you are asked to register for EES, the information will be taken at the border before you leave the UK.

Please note that ETIAS will start operations in the last quarter of 2026.

ETIAS is the new travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers to enter 30 European countries.  Further information can be found here:  ETIAS for British Citizens

STAYING SAFE ON HOLIDAY

It is essential that you see your GP or a travel clinic before travelling to make sure that you have taken all the necessary health precautions. Some vaccinations require more than one visit with a period of weeks between injections. You should visit your GP at least six weeks before departure. For up-to-date medical advice, you may wish to use one of the following health information services:

·      National Travel Health Network and Centre:  www.nathnac.org

·      Fit for Travel:  https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/travel-vaccinations/travel-vaccination-advice/

·      The Medical Advisory Service for Travellers Abroad (MASTA):  www.masta-travel-health.com

Get healthcare cover abroad with a UK GHIC or UK EHIC

The UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) lets you get necessary state healthcare in the European Economic Area (EEA), on the same basis as a resident of that country. This may be free or it may require a payment equivalent to that which a local resident would pay.

The UK GHIC has replaced the existing European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). If you have an existing EHIC you can continue to use it until the expiry date on the card. Once it expires, you'll need to apply for a UK GHIC to replace it.

Please note that the UK GHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance. We advise you to have private travel and medical insurance for the duration of your trip.

We also recommend you check FCDO travel advice on GOV.UK for the country you're visiting.

For guidance on staying safe while on holiday, please visit: Staying Safe on Holiday | England Rugby Travel – amend link to be company appropriate

TRAVELLING WITH MEDICATION

If you need prescribed medicine for a health condition, talk to your GP or practice nurse about your travel plans at least two months before your departure date. They can tell you if you need to make any special arrangements. Visit the NHS website for more useful information: https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/medicines/can-i-take-my-medicine-abroad/

The legal status, regulation and entry restrictions of some medicines prescribed or purchased in the UK can be different in other countries. If you’re travelling with prescription or over-the-counter medicine, please read the guidance from NaTHNaC: https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/factsheet/43/medicines-abroad

TRAVELLING WITH INFANTS AND CHILDREN

If travelling with infants or children, we would bring to your attention Section 7 (15) – (21) of the Package Terms & Conditions.

BASSINET SEAT REQUESTS

Bassinet seats are subject to airline availability and can only be confirmed to us at the point of flight ticketing, which typically occurs less than three months prior to the flight's departure.

As a result, we may not be able to confirm bassinet seating at the time of booking, nor guarantee any associated costs or supplements in advance. While we will always do our best to accommodate such requests, final allocation remains at the discretion of the airline and is outside of our control.

We recommend discussing any specific seating needs with us as early as possible so we can liaise with the airline accordingly.

Suitability

Due to the nature of attending sporting events at large stadia, there may be considerable walks, queuing, extended travel time, limited space and other practicalities associated with large crowds of people. If you have concerns as to whether this is suitable for any of your Group, please contact us.

Additional Fees, Charges and Other Costs

It is not always possible to calculate additional fees, charges and other costs. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Certain destinations may impose a tourist tax, city tax or similar local charge. This will not be included in the price of your package, unless specifically stated in your Booking Confirmation Email. You will be responsible for checking and paying any such taxes directly to the accommodation provider or relevant local authority

Financial Protection

We are a member of ABTA which means you have the benefit of ABTA’s assistance and Code of Conduct. We provide financial protection for your money when you buy a package holiday.

If your booking includes a flight it will be financially protected by the ATOL scheme under our membership number 3030. For more information, please see the Terms and Conditions and also the financial protection information.
