Brisbane is one of Australia’s most impressive and welcoming cities. If it’s the outdoor lifestyle you are after, this really is the one for you. There are plenty of lively watering holes at the heart of the city – on Edward Street, Albert Street and Elizabeth Street – and in the Fortitude Valley district immediately to the north, where the bars have a more bohemian vibe. There are restaurants galore in the same hip area – and in South Bank, where the Brisbane River loops through the heart of the matter.

If it’s all about the razzmatazz, contrasts, big vibes and a great welcome, Melbourne is for you too.

Like Sydney, it has significant landmarks at its heart – Queen Victoria Market, which has been a focal point of city life, with its food stalls, and fruit and vegetables, since 1878; the National Gallery of Victoria – the country’s oldest art museum, which has a wealth of work by Australian and Asian artists; the Royal Botanic Gardens, where the vast array of leafy flora is a reminder (if you needed it) of the merry warmth of the Australian weather.

Visit Fitzroy, which has some of the most alluring options for dinner, head to Prahran, which has shops, bars and a bohemian ambience or the seaside suburb of St Kilda, where there are cafes along the edge of Port Philip Bay.

And when you bring the rugby to the party, with six matches, including the final, in the incredible, spectacular Sydney that needs no introduction, this is a holiday Down Under without equal. 

Although we know quarter-final matches will take place in Sydney and Brisbane, the match combination has yet to be confirmed.
