And should you want to go deeper between the trunks and branches, Cairns is home to plenty of day-trip specialists who will take you on an 80-mile drive north to Daintree National Park – where, by certain measurements, the rainforest is the oldest on the planet.

The Sydney Opera House is an architectural superstar – so impressive that you do not need to catch a performance to be drawn in by its magnificence. The harbour which frames it is as splendid a collision of land and water as you can find anywhere on the planet – assisted by the unmistakable steel arch of Sydney Harbour Bridge and then there are spectacular bars, great eateries and so much more.

Although we know quarter-final matches will take place in Sydney and Brisbane, the match combination has yet to be confirmed.
