The harbour which frames it is as splendid a collision of land and water as you can find anywhere on the planet – assisted by the unmistakable steel arch of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Then there are the many, many elements of Sydney which merit exploration beyond the obvious. You cannot move for sophisticated restaurants in The Rocks (the district around the harbour), Darling Harbour (another exciting waterfront area) and Barangaroo, the newest waterside precinct in Sydney, with exciting bars, restaurants and a wealth of shops to explore; dinner tends to be much cheaper, and the bars considerably noisier, in the famous din of Kings Cross. Although we know quarter-final matches will take place in Sydney and Brisbane, the match combination has yet to be confirmed.
